To Our Valued Customers:
For more than 45 years, Peruvian Connection has worked closely with some of the finest textile cottage industries, not only in South America, but in the world. During that time, we've developed and nurtured collaborative relationships with their artisans, based on years of mutual respect and fair dealings.
Although there is no single formally recognised "fair trade" standard for the apparel industry, we take our commitment to fair trade with the artisans we work with very seriously. We strive to work only with those cottage industries that ensure the best working conditions for the artisans they employ. We have known the owners of these businesses personally for decades, and as a company, we do business with them in a fair and respectful manner.
The talented knitters and sewers with whom we work fall in the most skilled tier of artisan production, which puts them among the highest paid people in their profession. Peruvian Connection's commitment to these artisans goes well beyond paying fair wages:
- We have partnered with 30+ cottage industries for 30 years or more, many of whom provide transportation, hot meals, bonuses, time off and even daycare in some cases for their artisans.
- Our yearly production levels remain consistent and reliable, and we virtually never "shop around" production for the best price. Doing so directly impacts the knitters' incomes. Our aim is to sustain Andean textile traditions, which fundamentally depend upon the talented artisans with whom we work.
I hope that you will join us in celebrating the wonderful history and culture of the Andes, brought to us by those artisans who put their hearts and souls into every stitch.
